0.3 Common Roofing Terms

0.3 Common Roofing and Conklin Terms

The purpose for this episode:

  • Define industry roofing terms

Materials included in this episode:

  • Definitions and terminology for all 6 Conklin Roofing Systems

Welcome back to the ACCEL Roofing Academy. I'm Justin and I'll be your host today.

In this episode we’ll be discussing some common terms in commercial roofing.

Have you ever heard the term a FROZEN ROPE?

We could go several ways with this, so the best thing we can do is define it. Definitions are important.

A "frozen rope" is a hard line drive hit directly to the outfield by the batter. The straight trajectory of the ball resembles the name — ”a frozen rope.”

If you’re a baseball fan you probably already knew this. But I had no idea what it meant until it was defined for me.

SO if you’re an experienced commercial roofer you will likely know several of the terms from this episode, but if you’re new to the industry or looking for a refresh, you should really enjoy today's episode.

Let’s go ahead and jump into some common terms you will need to know in commercial roofing.

Let's define the following: Spray Foam Systems. Metal Restoration Systems. Fabric Reinforced Systems. Membrane Coating Systems. TPO Membrane Systems. PVC Flexion Systems

  • Spray Polyurethane Foam, more commonly referred to as SPF, is a material that’s sprayed as a liquid so it can expand into a foam, creating a solid layer across an existing roof. Conklin's Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) System is a seamless barrier that insulates and waterproofs your roof to save energy costs.
  • Metal Restoration System. A complete waterproofing system for metal roofs that inhibits rust, stops leaks, and provides an energy-efficient, long-lasting, and attractive finish coat for years of service. All seams are strengthened with fabric reinforcement embedded into our acrylic elastomeric roof coating. Exposed fasteners are sealed from the elements with premium caulking. The entire roof surface is protected with one of Conklin’s industry-leading roof coatings. The system is an effective method for preserving an existing metal roof without the need for costly metal repair or replacement.
  • Fabric reinforced roof systems are unique in that they are applied to an already existing roof. They are used to extend the life of metal, concrete, EPDM, and ISO board roofs and non-smooth substrates. They combine the best attributes of a strong and durable single-ply system with a seamless, leak-proof membrane.
  • Membrane Coating. A complete waterproofing system that can improve and extend the life of an existing membrane roof. As TPO, EPDM, and other membranes become weathered, rooftops can crack, leak, and pick up dirt, diminishing their effectiveness and energy-saving properties. Conklin’s elastomeric coatings provide a new, cost-effective solution for repairing and preserving approved single-ply membrane roofs, resulting in improved energy savings.
  • Premium polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membrane systems that offer outstanding reflectivity and are resistant to a broad range of chemicals, helping to extend the life of the commercial roof. During installation, single-ply membrane rolls are overlapped and heat welded together along with mechanically-fastening or fully-adhering with adhesive to form an exceptionally durable, waterproof, and energy-efficient shield that will deliver unsurpassed building protection for years to come.
